For research on quantum critical phenomena in metals with competing interactions

Your tasks

Quantum materials are an exciting class of solids in which strong quantum mechanical effects can lead to novel states of matter with a plethora of yet unexplored properties. You will conduct research on metallic materials hosting unconventional quantum fluctuations, which are predicted to give rise to some of these ambiguous quantum phenomena. You will study the microscopic interactions in these materials using mainly elastic and inelastic neutron scattering which may be completed by muon spin rotation and x-ray experiments.

Your profile

  • Master degree in Physics with a solid understanding in condensed matter physics, magnetism and / or scattering techniques
  • Active interest in planning, performing, analyzing and interpreting research experiments
  • Able to work independently in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team
  • Good communication skills in English

While based at the Paul Scherrer Institute, you will be registered as a PhD Student in Physics at ETH.
