Scientist (Tenure Track)

Geology, Geochemistry, Environmental Science

Your tasks

  • Planning and conducting laboratory and field work on reactive transport processes (sorption, diffusion, precipitation, solid solution formation) relevant to underground repository systems and collaborating with the modelling team on interpretation of data and designing of experiments
  • Initiating and conducting field-scale experiments with partners of the Mont Terri Underground Research Laboratory (MT-URL)
  • Playing an active role as PSI representative in the MT-URL
  • Participation in projects relevant to the long-term evolution of waste repositories for radioactive waste, contaminant transport and geo-engineering
  • Acquisition of project funding

Your profile

We are looking for a team player able to bridge reactive transport experiments, field studies (e.g. Mont Terri URL) and modelling activities conducted in the Laboratory for Waste Management. Previous involvement in international research projects in underground field laboratories devoted to waste disposal, CCS or geothermal energy is of advantage. The candidate should have a good understanding of geochemical thermodynamics and transport phenomena in argillaceous rocks and porous media in general. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Natural Sciences, Geochemistry or Geology. Excellent knowledge of English is required and knowledge of German is beneficial.
