PSI Spin-off "novoMOF" secures 4.4 Million CHF for promising CO2 technology

We are pleased to announce a significant achievement for our spin-off novoMOF. The company has successfully completed a funding round, raising 4.4 million Swiss francs (approximately 4.6 million euros) to further advance its promising work in CO2-capturing technology. The funding round was supported by Shift4Good, Regenerative Ltd., and other investors.

Founded in 2017 as a spin-off of the Paul Scherrer Institute, novoMOF develops Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), a novel class of materials with great potential for CO2 capture and other applications. This funding will help the company expand its solutions for CO2 reduction.

Sustainable CO2 Capture Solution

NovoMOF’s MOFs offer a cost-effective way to "capture" CO2 – well below 100 euros per ton of CO2. These materials are highly porous and provide a large surface area for selectively binding gases like CO2 and methane. NovoMOF aims to reduce CO2 emissions in industries such as energy production and manufacturing, which together account for more than half of global CO2 emissions.

The MOFs also enable space-efficient CO2 capture, which is important for maritime and heavy-duty transport.

Strong Partnerships for a Sustainable Future

The funding round was supported by GTT Strategic Ventures, the investment fund of the GTT group. This partnership, along with the involvement of Shift4Good, Regenerative Ltd., and other investors, strengthens novoMOF’s position and opens up new opportunities to implement CO2 capture technology across various industries. NovoMOF aims to capture six million tons of CO2 annually with its MOFs by 2030 – a significant contribution to global climate protection.

A Strong Foundation at PSI

As the Paul Scherrer Institute, we are proud of the successes of novoMOF and its development as a spin-off. NovoMOF is an outstanding example of how scientific research and technology transfer at PSI are creating innovative solutions for a sustainable future. We look forward to the continued development and success of novoMOF.
