RESEARCH FOCUS
- Hydrocarbon-based membranes for fuel cells, electrolyzers, and emerging electrochemical systems
- In-depth mechanistic studies of degradation (radical chemistry, ionomer stability, morphological changes)
- Development of polymer blends and composites with tailored transport and durability profile
- Integration of membranes into devices, development of scalable solutions
- Cross-disciplinary collaborations with academia and industry
RESEARCH APPROACH
Below, I tried capturing how I approach my work within the analytical quests and materials design in the space of polymer electrolytes. It shows the breadth of topics and disciplines that are involved in central research questions I try to address, and what makes the topic so interesting.
From the physics of ion transport and radical degradation kinetics to engineering solutions needed to integrate novel materials into devices, I always try figuring out "where" a problem should best be solved (e.g., increased mechanical robustness of a polymer vs. the reduction of compressive/crazing forces in a stack), to move technology forward.
