Postdoctoral Fellow

Experimental Physicist

Your tasks

The position is available in the framework of the SNSF Starting Grant of Dr Zurab Guguchia. You will pursue research in the group of Dr Guguchia at the Laboratory for Muon Spin Spectroscopy on the exploration of unconventional correlated quantum phases of layered materials using state of the art instrumentation at large scale facilities (muons, neutrons) combined with powerful external tuning parameters such as pressure, strain, and magnetic field. The research includes many interesting topics, such as magnetically induced topological phases as well as superconducting pairing and the time-reversal symmetry breaking nature of charge order in kagome-lattice materials, non-BCS behaviours of superconductivity in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), unconventional magnetism in semiconducting TMDs, and more. You will broaden your experience and benefit from interactions with the local scientific environment and from the networking within international collaborations.

Your profile

You are highly motivated researcher with a doctoral degree in experimental condensed matter physics, who enjoys cracking challenging problems using both experimental and numerical approaches and have a strong proven scientific track record. You are a good communicator and like to work in a team. You have research experience with local magnetic probes e.g. muon-spin rotation and are familiar with instrumentation and data acquisition techniques, cryogenics and instrument control. Preferably, you are also familiar with neutron diffraction / scattering methods. Knowledge of uniaxial or hydrostatic pressure techniques would be of advantage.

We offer

Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.

Your employment contract is limited to 2 years.
