The search for the muon electric dipole moment, muEDM, started at PSI, searching for a signal of beyond-Standard-Model physics and testing lepton universality. You will setup and work on a precursor experiment demonstrating novel techniques and deploying for the first time the frozen-spin method.
You will study and design the 3D injection of muons into a solenoid towards an experimental demonstration of muon storage in an orbit.
For this you will:
- Simulate the injection using Monte Carlo techniques
- Develop and qualify a magnetically shielded channel made of super conductors for a magnetic-field-free passage of muons from the beamline into the solenoid
- Participate in designing and testing of a muon entrance detector made of scintillators
- Participate in the setup of the new experimental apparatus
We seek a talented and ambitious candidate who is highly motivated to work on this innovative project in a newly founded research team and within an international collaboration.
- Master degree in Physics
- High interest in fundamental muon physics and experimental techniques
- Practical experience in experimental work with accelerators or detectors is appreciated
- Ability to work independently
- Good programming skills are required
- Good level of English (C1) as working language in spoken and written from is mandatory
- Knowledge of German or willingness to quickly learn German is a plus
