Instrument Scientist (Tenure Track)

Ultrafast atomic, molecular and non-linear science at the Maloja endstation

Your tasks

  • Contribute to the development, commissioning, and user operation of SwissFEL’s Experimental Station Maloja which is dedicated to ultrafast and intense soft X-Ray sciences
  • Develop an independent research program in the wider area of ultrafast dynamics, single-shot imaging, or non-linear X-Ray science with applications in atomic, molecular and optical physics or chemical sciences
  • Advance instrumentation, experimental techniques, or analysis tools for XFEL applications
  • Coordination of the work with internal and external collaborators

Your profile

As a successful candidate, you should hold a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or in a related field. You have research experience in a scientific domain related to the Maloja endstation program, including but not limited to non-linear X-Ray sciences, ultrafast chemical dynamics, attosecond spectroscopy, single-shot diffractive imaging. Hands-on experience in planning and commissioning of new instrumentation as well as developing data analysis routines will be relevant. You enjoy working at a scientific user facility in an interdisciplinary, multinational team with scientific and technical members. You have excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of the local language German would be an additional plus.
