Adaptive real time tumour tracking

Your tasks

In radiotherapy, the most efficient way to treat a tumour that moves as a result of patient breathing is tracking its position with the treatment beam. The translation of this approach so called tumour tracking to particle therapy is however challenging and object of ongoing research. In the course of your PhD project, you will be investingating into different options for rapid, on the fly, adaptation of the treatment field to follow the patient breathing. Promising solutions will be tested in a clinical treatment unit at the Paul Scherrer Institute, under realistic conditions and dose applications.

Your profile

You hold a Master degree in physics, engineering or closely related disciplines and have an interest in experimental work in the field of proton therapy medical applications. Good communication skills in English are essential and previous experiences in image guided radiotherapy would be of benefit. You will be registered as a PhD student at the ETH Zurich.
