Although every care has been taken by the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI to ensure the accuracy of the information published, no warranty can be given in respect of the accuracy, reliability, up-to-dateness or completeness of this information.

PSI expressly reserves the right to alter, remove or temporarily not to publish the content, in full or in part, without prior notice.

In no event will PSI be liable for any loss or damage of a material or immaterial nature arising from access to, use or non-use of published information, or from misuse of the connection or technical faults. References and links to third-party websites lie outside the scope of responsibility of PSI, as do references and links by third parties that refer to PSI websites. Access and use of such websites occurs entirely at the user’s own risk. PSI expressly states that it has no influence whatsoever over the content of any linked site. Responsibility for information and services of linked sites rests entirely with the relevant third parties.

No liability can be accepted in respect of the content of such websites.

Data protection

Based on Article 13 of the Federal Constitution and the provisions of federal data protection legislation, everyone has the right to the protection of their privacy as well as to protection from misuse of their personal data. PSI complies with these provisions. Personal data is handled in line with the provisions of the Federal Act on Data Protection.

In close cooperation with our hosting providers, we make every effort to protect the databases as well as possible from outside access, data loss, misuse or falsification.

When you visit our websites, anonymised information concerning access (data, time, page accessed) may be stored on the server. Log files store details such as browser types used, operating systems, the webpage from which you were forwarded to our websites, an IP address and other similar data. This data serves technical analysis in the case of maintenance work as well as defence against threats in the event of attacks on our systems. We do not make any inferences regarding the data subject when using this data. This data is used for statistical purposes and to protect data security.

This usage data also forms the basis for statistical, impersonal evaluations for the purpose of tracking trends so that PSI can improve the information on offer. In accordance with the Federal Act on Postal and Telecommunications Surveillance (BÜPF), there is a statutory retention requirement for marginal data from the past six months.

SSL encryption

Our websites use SSL encryption to transmit confidential or personal content concerning our users. For example, this encryption is activated to process payment transactions and for queries sent to us by you via our websites. Please ensure that the encryption is activated for corresponding activities by you. Use of the encryption can be recognised as follows: The address displayed in your browser line switches from “http://” to “https://”. The data encrypted via SSL cannot be read by third parties. Only send your confidential information when SSL encryption is activated. If in any doubt, get in touch with us.

Our websites uses cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored permanently or temporarily to your computer, tablet or mobile device when you visit our websites. The purpose of the cookies is in particular to analyse use of our websites for statistical analysis and for continuous improvement. You can partially or fully deactivate cookies in your browser settings at any time. However, if you deactivate cookies you may not be able to use all functions on our websites.

We also wish to point out that our websites may contain cookies from third-party providers. By using our websites, you expressly declare your agreement to use all cookies.

Web analysis services

Our websites can use web analysis services, e.g. Google Analytics. Such web analysis services use cookies. These cookies are text files stored on your computer, tablet or mobile device in order to analyse how you use our websites.

The information generated by the cookies concerning your use of our websites (date and time of request, location and frequency of accessing the websites, source, language, operating system, browser, click behaviour, visitor source, computer resolution, time spent on the websites including your anonymised IP address) is transferred to servers of the web analysis services and stored there. Their servers may be located outside of Switzerland.

Our website has an IP anonymisation function. However, we cannot fully rule out the possibility that the full IP address is transferred.

The information collected by web analysis services is used to evaluate how you use our websites, to compile reports about the website activities for the website operators and to provide further services related to website use and internet use. The information collected by the web analysis services is also transferred to third parties.

You can use the corresponding setting in your browser software to prevent cookies from being installed. We would like to point out, however, that you may not be able to use all of the functions of our websites in full in that case.

By using this website, you expressly agree to the processing of your data by third parties (e.g. Google in accordance with the terms of use of Google Analytics).

Contact form

If you contact us voluntarily, your contact data is included in a separate database that is not linked to the anonymised log files. You can cancel your registration at any time by contacting us in this regard.

Plug-ins & extensions

Our websites may use plug-ins. These can relate to different third-party services. When you access a PSI website that contains such a plug-in, your server establishes a direct connection to the servers of the service providers. The content of the plug-in is transferred by the services directly to your browser and integrated in the websites by the browser. If you are logged into the services, they can allocate the visit to your user account. If you interact with the plug-ins, for example using the “Like” button, the corresponding information is transferred from your browser directly to the service provider and stored there.

The purpose and scope of data collection and the further processing and use of the data by the service providers as well as your associated rights and settings options for the protection of your privacy are described in the data privacy policy of the respective provider.

If data is transmitted to PSI (for example using a contact form provided), it is not possible to guarantee confidential or reliable data transfer. In addition, PSI will likewise normally respond to such contact electronically, in which case the confidentiality and integrity of the data transmitted again cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, no data that is sensitive in terms of confidentiality, availability or integrity should be transmitted in this way. Copyright and other such rights to all the contents, texts, photographs and images or other data and files on our websites belong exclusively to PSI or to the specifically named owners of such rights. Unless explicitly indicated otherwise, such elements may only be used for non-commercial purposes. Any reproduction or other use of such elements for alternative (particularly commercial) purposes is only permitted with the prior written permission of the relevant owner of the right. Please contact the Communications Department (info@psi.ch) for information about the editorial use of texts, photographs and images, or other data or files.

Please note: All media, such as photos, graphics and videos, in particular those made available in high resolution in the context of press releases, may only be used in the editorial context of these contents, naming the author. Archiving of this media is not permitted. As far as parts of or individual wording in this text are/is not, no longer or not completely in accordance with the valid legal situation, the remaining parts are not affected in their content and their validity.
