Design and production of a high performance shaft for the measurement of SLS2.0 magnets’ field quality with rotating PCB coils

Your tasks

In the framework of the design and implementation of new measurement benches for the SLS2.0 magnets, the objective of the work is:

  • Evaluate state-of-the-art solutions for the production of rotating coil shafts for PCB coils
  • Design and numerical assessment of a scalable and flexible concept for the implementation of modular coils shafts (single or series connection to cover measurement lengths of up to hundreds of millimeters) that guaranties high mechanical performance
The main tasks related to the aforementioned items are:
  • Determination of the material for the shaft implementation
  • Propose an effective design (with exhaustive static and dynamic analyses) for single and multiple segments shaft
  • Define the best production technology
  • Testing and implementation of a proof of concept to validate the models
  • Launch the manufacturing of a prototype (final drawings for production must be available)

Your profile

  • You are an engineering or physics student (minimum 4 semesters)
  • Knowledge in mechanical design, simulation software for static and dynamic mechanical assemblies, and mechanical CADs
  • You are open-minded, communicative and enjoy working in an international team
  • You have not yet completed your Master’s thesis
