TOMCAT: Multimodal Multiscale Dynamic Imaging

TOMCAT is a state‑of‑the‑art X‑ray imaging facility at the Swiss Light Source (SLS), dedicated to high‑resolution, dynamic, multi‑modal tomographic microscopy across a broad spectrum of scientific applications.

Operated by the  X-ray Tomography Group at PSI TOMCAT integrates two complementary beamlines — S‑TOMCAT and I‑TOMCAT — to enable both absorption‑based and phase‑contrast imaging with isotropic voxel sizes ranging from a few hundred nanometers to ten micrometers, using either monochromatic or filtered white‑beam illumination.

TOMCAT will resume regular user operations in Experimental Period 2026‑II, with the next proposal submission deadline on March 16, 2026 (midnight). For information on how to apply, please visit the Submitting Proposals  page.
