Thierry Strässle earned his Master's and PhD degrees in experimental physics from ETH Zurich in Switzerland. During his postdoctoral tenure at the Université Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris, he gained extensive expertise in neutron scattering. In 2005, he joined the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI, taking on the role of overseeing the time-of-flight spectrometer FOCUS at the Swiss spallation neutron source. His research pursuits encompass neutron, X-ray, and Raman studies focusing on multiferroic materials, unconventional superconductors, magnetic clusters, and molecular solids, often conducted under extremely high pressures.
Since 2010, Strässle has been actively involved in supporting the PSI directorate in various capacities, contributing to scientific, science policy, economic, and management matters. By the end of 2012, he assumed the position of chief of staff at PSI. From the beginning of 2019 until March 31, 2020, he served as the interim director of PSI. In September 2020, he was appointed vice director at PSI, marking another milestone in his distinguished career.
