  • 1986 Diploma in Chemistry at the Institute of Inorganic and Applied Chemistry, University of Hamburg, Germany, with a work on the simultaneous determination of various anionic species in rain samples
  • 1991 PhD, University of Hamburg, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. W. Dannecker in the Institute of Inorganic and Applied Chemistry with studies on the concentration of trace species, especially nitrogen compounds, in the atmosphere and in precipitation for the estimation of the input into the North Sea. Gaseous and particulate nitrogen species as well as their wet and total deposition were investigated using denuder and filter pack techniques as well as precipitation samples.
  • 1990-1991 Post-Doc in the Aerosol Chemistry Group of the Laboratory of Radio and Environmental Chemistry (Prof. H.W. Gäggeler and U. Baltensperger). Investigation of the transfer of chemical species from the atmosphere into snow at the high-alpine research station Jungfraujoch.
  • Since 1992 Staff member of the Laboratory of Radio and Environmental Chemistry and head of the Analytical Chemistry Group.
  • Since 2000 Deputy head of the Laboratory of Radio and Environmental Chemistry.
