Tom Terlouw is a PhD student in the Technology Assessment (TA) group of the Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis (LEA) at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI). His personal interests are on the topics of Life Cycle Assessment, (community) energy storage and optimization. His PhD work will be focusing on decarbonizing the energy sector by evaluating energy systems with economic and environmental assessments. This will be performed by making use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and optimization techniques.

Tom obtained his master degree in Energy Science from Utrecht University in 2018. During his master, he visited PSI both for an internship and for his master thesis, which were focused on the economic and environmental assessment of electricity storage and electric mobility in Switzerland. Afterwards, he worked as a consultant at Energy21 for one year, where he was responsible to develop software for utility companies to optimize their data management and energy portfolio. Since March 2020, Tom is back at PSI to start with his PhD work.
