Tom Terlouw is a PhD student in the Technology Assessment (TA) group of the Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis (LEA) at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and in the institute of Energy and Process Engineering of ETH Zürich. His personal interests are on the topics of sustainability assessment, life cycle assessment, carbon dioxide removal technologies and energy system optimization. His PhD work will be focusing on decarbonizing the energy sector by evaluating carbon dioxide removal technologies and distributed energy systems with economic as well as environmental life cycle assessments.

Tom obtained his master degree in Energy Science from Utrecht University in 2018. During his master, he visited PSI both for an internship and for his master thesis, which were focused on the economic and environmental assessment of electricity storage and electric mobility in Switzerland. Afterwards, he worked as a consultant at Energy21 for one year, where he was responsible to develop software for utility companies to optimize their data management and energy portfolio. Tom started his PhD work in March 2020.
