The Nanolino daycare centre and its origins

The Nanolino daycare centre looks back on over 25 years of history.
On 12 September 1996, a group of committed parents founded the Kita Kiwi association on the grounds of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). The aim was to create a daycare centre for the children of PSI employees. The institute supported the project financially and provided premises.

The Kiwi daycare centre officially opened its doors in 1997. The first group looked after children aged between four months and kindergarten age. More groups were soon added, and a private kindergarten was added in 2002.

In 2012, the association was dissolved and the nursery was taken over by the PSI.
The name Kiwi stood for the beautiful idea that ‘no one is like me’ – an expression of each child's individuality.

In 2020, the daycare centre temporarily moved to Rüfenach while a new building was constructed on the PSI site.
In the summer of 2024, the team and the children returned to the new, sustainable building on campus under a new name: Kita Nanolino – a daycare centre for the youngest children at PSI.
