The use of the devices operated and maintained by the Physical Properties of Materials Group is open to other PSI groups and to external academic users under certain conditions. The access rules and publication policy, aimed to ensure a fair scientific working climate, are detailed below:
- Access to the PPMS and MPMS devices by other PSI groups is possible in terms of a scientific collaboration. It is thus expected that staff members assisting during the experiments are mentioned as co-authors in any publication that results from data obtained during the measurements.
- The access of external (i.e., non-PSI) academic should be discussed with the Head of the Group.
- All users are requested to include in the experimental section the following sentence (or a similar statement), required to ensure that the papers can be found in bibliographic databases:
“The measurements were carried out on the PPMS/MPMS devices of the Laboratory for Multiscale Materials Experiments, Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen, Switzerland”.
- MPMS users should also acknowledge the funding source with the following sentence in the acknowledgements section:
“This work was supported the Swiss National Science Foundation (grant no. 206021_139082)”.
- The measurements will be done by the users under the supervision of one of the responsible persons designated by Head of the Group. Self-service is not allowed.
- Users will be responsible for sample mounting/cutting, as well as for making the necessary electrical contacts.
- The user name and affiliation, the full sample formula and the experimental conditions of the measurement have to be written in the PPMS/MPMS logbooks.
- The laboratory table will be thoroughly cleaned and the samples removed after the measurements. Unidentified / abandoned samples and mounting material will be disposed.
- The general rules, PSI-Weisungen regarding publications, safety, chemicals, toxic materials, radioactive materials, magnetic and electric fields apply explicitly to all activities of LMX and its guests.
- The access to the devices will be forbidden in the case of non-observance of these rules
