Biography

Aleksandra Ivanovic is a Ph.D. student in the X-ray Tomography Group at Paul Scherrer Institut and the Inselspital (University of Bern) since autumn 2020. Before that, she received her BSc. in Biomedical Science from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) in 2018 and her MSc. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Basel (Switzerland) in 2020, where she worked in the Bio-Inspired RObots for MEDicine-Laboratory (BIROMED-Lab) within the scope of her master's thesis.

Aleksandra’s research focuses on the investigation of the human auditory system in motion using synchrotron-based X-ray phase-contrast imaging. Due to the size and location of the ossicles, the physiological mechanism of sound transmission and the biomechanics of the middle ear are still poorly understood. With synchrotron-based phase-contrast X-ray tomography, we could revolutionize the gold standard techniques for morphological and biomechanical assessments of the human middle ear to visualize the middle ear dynamically during stimulation in its natural configuration.

Aleksandra's Ph.D. is carried out in close collaboration with the Inselspital and the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research (Bern, Switzerland)
