Gyanendra Panchal is a postdoc member of the Microscopy and Magnetism (MM) group (led by Dr. Urs Staub), working under the supervision of Dr. Carlos A. F. Vaz at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) of the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI). He obtained his master degree in physics from University of Delhi (Hindu College), Delhi, India. He received his Ph.D. degree (February 2020) from UGC- DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Indore, India. His worked mainly focused on the fabrication of artificial multiferroic [Ferromagnetic (FE) /Ferroelectric (FE)] hetero-epitaxial thin films and investigation of the effect of different types of strain on the electronic structure and magnetic properties of these heterostructures using synchrotron based techniques, mainly soft x-ray absorption (XAS, XMCD) and photoemission spectroscopy.

In March 2020, he joined Dr. Klaus Habicht's group (Dynamics and Transport in Quantum Materials) as a postdoctoral fellow at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Germany. In September 2022, he started as a postdoc in the MM group, with research focused on the fundamental interfacial properties of complex oxide materials using space and time-resolved magnetometry and spectroscopy.

Scientific Research

Gyanendra has interests include artificial multiferroics, epitaxial growth and characterization of multifunctional oxide heterostructures, fabrication of artificial multiferroics based field effect device and probing the interfacial magnetic and electronic properties of the different oxide heterostructures, through the techniques of X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS, XMCD and XMLD) and soft x-ray resonant magnetic scattering/reflectivity.
