Second BRIDGE Workshop in Tokyo

The second BRIDGE workshop, “Bridging Research Innovations in Diverse muon and neutron science by GEneral collaboration between Japan and Switzerland”, took place at the University of Tokyo on October 20-22, 2025. It followed a first BRIDGE meeting that was held at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in October 2023.

The goal of the workshops is to bring together scientific and technical staff from two of the world’s leading high-intensity proton accelerator facilities—J-PARC and PSI—to discuss the current status, technical challenges, and future perspectives of experimental systems utilizing muon, neutron, and hadron beams. This year’s program consisted of two days of presentations and in-depth discussions at University of Tokyo’s Yayoi auditorium, with a one-day tour of the J-PARC facilities in Tokai, Ibaraki. The exchange turned again out to be very fruitful with a number of concrete common activities to follow up on.

The meeting was followed by an early career researcher event October 23-24 where the participating PhD students and postdocs moved to the KEK Tsukuba campus. Another satellite meeting was organized as a mini workshop on October 23 at J-PARC around the topic “Advancing Neutron Facilities Together 2025: Instrumentation, Source Operation, and International Collaboration between SINQ and MLF”.

The Swiss participants from PSI and ETH Zurich appreciated the kind hospitality of the Japanese hosts and everyone agreed that we aim at holding another edition in Switzerland, likely in 2027.
