Projects IMPACT Project The goal of IMPACT (Isotope and Muon Production using Advanced Cyclotron and Target technologies) is the construction of two new target stations and beamlines at the Paul Scherrer Institute’s (PSI) high-intensity proton accelerator HIPA to increase the available muon rates by up to a factor 100 for much improved experiments in particle physics and materials science (HIMB) and to create radioisotopes suitable for advanced cancer treatments in the required quantities for clinical studies (TATTOOS). As part of the project, complementary infrastructures at the University of Zurich (UZH) and at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) are planned to fully exploit the potential of these new installations. SLS 2.0 The Swiss Light Source will be upgraded with a new magnet lattice to a diffraction-limited storage ring, yielding an emittance and brightness improved by up to two orders of magnitude. The upgrade SLS2.0 is planned for implementation in 2023/2024, and a return to regular user operation in 2025. CHART@PSI CHART (Swiss Accelerator Research and Technology) was founded in 2016 as an umbrella collaboration for accelerator research and technology activities. Present partners in CHART are CERN, PSI, EPFL, ETH-Zurich and the University of Geneva. Einstein Telescope EuPRAXIA EuPRAXIA (European Plasma Research Accelerator with Excellence in Applications) aims at realizing free electron laser user facilities based on plasma accelerators. This would broaden access to X-rays from free electron lasers to a broader community of users.
