MARS: Backscattering Spectrometer

Welcome on the web site of MARS, the indirect time-of-flight backscattering spectrometer at SINQ. MARS is optimized for high energy resolution inelastic neutron scattering experiments. It is well suited for parametric studies, i.e. measuring the intensity (or line broadening) as a function of temperature, magnetic field or pressure. Inelastic fixed window scans highly profit from the low background. Diffusion and tunneling experiments can be also performed, if 5 Q values with large angular coverage are sufficient. Examples can be found in publications. Please contact us if you wish to discuss the opportunities for your research.

News

Currently MARS is not in user operation: part of the secondary intrument is removed and replaced by the prototype of the CAMEA Project.
