Scattering analysis with machine learning

Artificial spin ice with square geometry is a magnetic metamaterial where the magnetization of the nano-sized magnets order below a critical temperature. Understanding the dynamics that lead to this ordering is important for designing and tuning the properties of magnetic metamaterials for technological applications. The dynamics of the magnetic domains can be probed using X-ray scattering with a coherent beam. However, the complexity of the data makes analysis and interpretation difficult. Machine learning approaches have the potential to reveal hidden patterns and details.

Goals:

The aim of this project was to develop and use machine-learning algorithms to analyse time- resolved X-ray diffraction data on a magnetic metamaterial and reveal the dynamics of the magnetic domains.
