Propagating spin waves in artificial spin ice

Artificial spin ice, where periodic arrays of single- domain nanomagnets are coupled via the dipole- dipole interaction, has been proposed to be a potential candidate for reprogrammable magnonic crystals.

The band structure of the magneto-static spin waves can be artificially tuned by varying various geometrical and magnetic parameters. The aim of this project is to design nanostructures inspired from the artificial spin ice and measure the propagating spin waves in them.

Tasks:

  • Fabrication of the artificial spin ice pattern on magnetic thin films
  • Measurement of the propagating spin waves using the ultrafast laser setup
