Development of High Pressure Cells

LMU is the leading laboratory for high-pressure µSR studies with pressures up to 2.5 GPa in a temperature range from 0.3 K to 500 K. The joint SNSF R’Equip project ExtremeP (2021–2022) of the three NUM laboratories LIN, LMU, and LNS aims to develop new pressure cells, with the goal of doubling the available maximum pressure to 5 GPa. This development is motivated by the broad user base at the SINQ and SµS facilities performing research on quantum materials, where larger pressures than the currently available 2–3 GPa are requested to address a wide range of open scientific questions on quantum materials.
