Overview LSC Groups Materials Science The MS group operates the Materials Science beamline and is interested in determining the atomic structures of technologically relevant materials using diffraction/scattering techniques. Microscopy and Magnetism The Microscopy and Magnetism group has a long experience in synchrotron based experiments in condensed matter physics. Microspectroscopy The Microspectroscopy group has a long experience in synchrotron based hyperspectral imaging for a wide variety of materials and involving many different scientific disciplines. Bernina The Bernina group works on experimental studies of beyond-equilirium ultrafast phenomena in condensed matter. It develops and operates the Bernina Instrument of SwissFEL, which is presently under commissioning and performing first experiments. Structure and Mechanics of Advanced Materials The group Structure and Mechanics of Advanced Materials (SMAM) performs research on structural and mechanical properties of diverse soft matter systems, including samples of biological origin, composite materials, as well as of metals and alloys. Photonics Instrumentation The Photonics Instrumentation group designs, develops and builds state of the art beamline components for the SLS and SwissFEL in collaboration with other expert groups within PSI and with external companies. Insertion Devices The Insertion Devices group designs, develops, builds and runs state of the art undulators for the SLS2.0 and SwissFEL in collaboration with other expert groups within PSI and with external companies. It also provides support to the beamlines.
