PSI researcher Patrick Hemberger honored in the Rising Stars special issue in Energy & Fuels

To celebrate contributions of highly influential early and mid-career researchers in energy research, the journal Energy & Fuels, which belongs to the American Chemical Society, has established an annual recognition of Energy and Fuels Rising Stars. Candidates are up to 12 years after their PhD and are selected by a global team of editors and members of the editorial advisory board. PSI researcher Patrick Hemberger was selected this year and featured in the current virtual special issue for his contributions in understanding reaction mechanisms in chemistry using advanced synchrotron tools.

Patrick Hemberger is a principal investigator and beamline scientist at the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) beamline at Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland). He obtained his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from the University of Würzburg (Germany) in 2011. Patrick develops and applies photoelectron photoion coincidence (PEPICO) techniques utilizing vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) synchrotron radiation to unveil reaction mechanisms at all states, time scales, and phases. His main research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis and combustion. He received the Ružička Prize in Chemistry from ETH Zürich in 2020 and was selected as a Mercator fellow by the German Science Foundation (DFG).
