En savoir plus

Sample Environment

The group develops, operates and maintains a range of sample environment equipment for research with neutrons and muons. We develop and support sample environment control software and hardware and are involved in the conceptional design and the realisation of complex experiments. Our capabilities for neutron scattering experiments span a temperature range from ultra-low temperatures to 1800K and include high magnetic and electric fields.

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering

The group is responsible to provide mechanical and electrical engineering support for muon and neutron instrumentation. This includes the design of new instrumentation, the technical development and simulations of the concepts, production, assembly, maintenance and repair of large-scale instrumentation. There is a strong emphasis on design and operation of advanced data acquisition electronics of the SINQ neutron instruments and precise motor control units.

Neutron Optics and Scientific Computing

The group performs research in various fields of neutron optics and is a leader in the simulation and development of supermirror-based neutron focusing optics and polarization analyzers.
The group operates the in-house neutron instrument BOA which is designed for test with novel neutron devices. Furthermore the group develops and supports the instrument control systems of both the SINQ neutron instruments and bulk µSR instruments.

Spallation Sources Operation Group

The spallation sources operation group - BSQ - is in charge of operating and maintaining PSI's two spallation neutron sources SINQ (providing thermal and cold neutrons) and UCN (providing ultra cold neutrons). Our mission is to ensure reliable and safe operation of the facilities while achieving maximum neutron fluences.

NUM Apprentices PADP

The group consists of the physics laboratory assistant apprentices of PSI and their main instructor.
Third and fourth year apprentices are gathered in a labour pool PADP (Physiklaboranten Ausbildung und Dienstleistungspool). For practical training their labour is provided for project works within PSI.
For more information about trainee projects contact: Yves Müller
