The JRC European TIMES Energy System Model or JRC-EU-TIMES is a multi-regional and multi-sectoral long-term energy system model of Europe. It covers EU27 and neighboring countries (36 in total) and has a comprehensive representation of various energy sectors like buildings, transport, industry, agriculture, energy supply, and transformation. It also has a detailed representation of European energy infrastructures such as, transmission grids, storages, pipelines, and terminals. The model allows for endogenous trading of various commodities like electricity, hydrogen, CO2, and gas between the regions. The JRC-EU-TIMES model is built on the TIMES modeling framework and it has a time horizon up to 2060 with each year divided into 12 time-slices. The model meets the demands at minimum cost subject to various scenario inputs by simultaneously solving for the optimum capacity of the technologies as well as their operation. Key outputs of the model are the annual stock and activity of supply, demand, and trade technologies including associated material and energy flow for each region and period. The model also provides operation and maintenance costs, investment costs, and prices of energy and materials commodities.
At EEG JRC-EU-TIMES is currently actively being extended and applied in various projects.
