SDSC and PSI teams jointly explore the AI potential of large-scale infrastructures

‍Villigen, July 8th, 2026 – To help activate a strategic community around its evolution as a national research infrastructure in data science and AI, the Swiss Data Science Center (SDCS) held a bespoke workshop at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). The event brought together over 30 researchers and data scientists to explore how machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) can optimize and accelerate analysis on PSI's large-scale scientific infrastructures. The day featured substantive knowledge exchange and the development of flagship project concepts, aimed at ensuring that ML/AI can empower this vital Swiss facility to advance data-driven science and innovation for the benefit of society.

When Quantum Magnets Lose Their Sense of Scale

Scale invariance asks whether the same patterns can govern nature across very different lengths, from microscopic matter to large natural structures. Magnets offer one of the cleanest examples: near a critical point, where order disappears, details of the material fade and universal laws take over.
