Dr. Yunpei Deng

Yunpei Deng is a Staff Laser Scientist in the Pump Laser Group at PSI. He has a large expertise in laser development, nonlinear optics, and ultrafast dynamics of atoms and molecules. He did his PhD, which focused on Quantum Electronics and nonlinear optics, in the group of Prof. Ruxin Li, at the State Key Laboratory of High Field Laser Physics- Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics-Chinese Academy of Sciences. Following his PhD, he moved to the group of Prof. Ferenc Krausz at the Max Planck institute for Quantum Optics. From 2006 to 2012 hewasa postdoc and then group leader for two of the several OPCPA projects in the Laboratory for Attosecond Physics. In 2012, he began work at the Fritz Haber Institute for high repetition rate OPCPA system development and its high harmonica generation. Since 2015, Yunpei has been a member of the experimental laser group in the Laboratory for Nonlinear Optics at PSI.
Yunpei's assigned responsibilities within the "pump laser" group in LNO include the support of user experiments at the Bernina endstation, as well as the upkeep and development of the laser system in the LHX laser laboratory. Yunpei also contributes to the support of the Alvra pump laser and has provided consultation on issues connected to the ATHOS laser installation. He has furthermore contributed to timing diagnostics in general.
Yunpei's research goals include bringing up new laser sources for user experiments at SwissFEL, as well as pushing the time resolution for such experiments to approach the 10 fs range. He is also interested in conducting experiments on inner shell atomic dynamics, high average power laser development and nonlinear optics.
