EuPRAXIA (European Plasma Research Accelerator with Excellence in Applications) aims at realizing free electron laser user facilities based on plasma accelerators. This would broaden access to X-rays from free electron lasers to a broader community of users.
PSI contributes to the electron beam instrumentation of the facilities, which will be key to achieving the required beam quality for FEL operation. We build on the experience from the design and operation of diagnostics for SwissFEL, and the developments of instrumentation for EuPRAXIA also support future upgrades of SwissFEL.
We develop the plasma discharge undulator concept, which could allow the realization of compact sources of coherent X-rays.
