The Energy Economics Group (EEG) at the Paul Scherrer Institute is an interdisciplinary team analysing energy systems, markets and socio-economic factors to support the transition to sustainable energy. As part of PSI’s Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis, EEG develops detailed scenarios with advanced optimisation and integrated assessment models to explore how technologies, infrastructure, markets and behaviours evolve under uncertainty.

By combining engineering detail with economic and behavioural insights, EEG provides policymakers, industry and the scientific community with actionable knowledge for decarbonisation, energy security and long-term planning.

Positioned at the interface of science, economics and policy, EEG works closely with Swiss authorities, industry, and international organisations such as the European Commission, OECD, IEA and World Energy Council, ensuring research is relevant and impactful for national, European and global sustainability goals.
