Biography

Michał graduated in Experimental Physics from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland, in 2014. In the group of prof. Kazimierz Bodek he defended his Master Thesis FID signal analysis and new DAQ system in the nEDM experiment, in which he contributed to the data acquisition system and magnetometry analysis in the measurement of the electric dipole moment of the neutron (nEDM), an experiment which was being prepared at PSI at the time. Over the next four years he pursued his PhD at ETH Zurich in the group of prof. Klaus Kirch, his research revolving around the nEDM measurement. Next to taking part in the measurement itself Michał worked on one side on new methods of protecting the sensitive experiment from the disturbing influence of external magnetic fields. On the other, in collaboration with researchers from the nEDM-at-PSI collaboration, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia and King's College London, UK, he searched for new types of dark matter by carefully analysing the measurement data (he did not find any). He defended his PhD Thesis Active Magnetic Shielding and Axion-Dark-Matter Search in 2018. For his work he was awarded the 2019 prize of the Swiss Institute of Particle Physics for "the best PhD student in Experimental or Theoretical Particle Physics". In pursuit of new challenges he joined the X-ray Tomography Group of prof. Marco Stampanoni in 2018, where he works on bringing phase contrast to dedicated breast computed tomography.
