Welcome to Fabian Mahrt

We gladly announce that Fabian Mahrt has started to work as Postdoc in the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry. He formally joined the Surface Chemistry group on 1 August 2020 but has started his work actually at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada.

Fabian obtained his PhD from ETH Zürich, working on cloud microphysics with a focus of studying the ice nucleating properties of soot particles. As part of his PhD thesis, Fabian also characterized soot particles using scanning transmission X-ray microscopy, in collaboration with the Surface Chemistry group at PSI. Since January 2020, Fabian has joined UBC with a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation, engaging in microphysical properties of secondary organic aerosol particles.

Fabian is now holder of a European Commission Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fellowship, which includes a two year experience at UBC and one year ‘back’ at PSI working in the Surface Chemistry group. Fabian’s work will be devoted to understanding and quantifying diffusion in secondary organic aerosol particles and the impact of slow diffusion on chemical aging processes in secondary organic aerosol particles.
