Bright Night 2026: Using Light to Reveal Materials and Chemistry – 18:00

4 November 2026, from 18:00 to 21:00

At the Swiss Light Source (SLS), you will discover how intense X-ray light is used to examine materials, chemical processes and biological structures down to the smallest detail.

The tour begins with a short introduction to the Paul Scherrer Institute and its research. You will then visit the SLS and learn how synchrotron light is generated and used for scientific experiments.

At a beamline, you will gain a direct insight into current research and see how scientists make structures and processes visible that would otherwise remain hidden from the human eye.
