Giovanni Baccolo studied Environmental Sciences at the University Milano-Bicocca and got his PhD in Environmental, Geologic and Polar Sciences at the University of Siena. In his PhD project he investigated atmospheric mineral dust in ice cores using Neutron Activation and Synchrotron Radiation X-ray fluorescence techniques. During his postdoc at the University of Milano-Bicocca he worked on paleoclimatic reconstructions from Antarctic and high-elevation ice cores and on glacial-related geochemistry.
At PSI, Giovanni Baccolo will develop a chronology of the 224 m bedrock ice core from temperate Adamello glacier, applying micro-radiocarbon dating an annual layer counting of the black carbon concentration.
