Swiss–Romanian Research & Innovation Partnership Under the Second Swiss Contribution

The Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC) at PSI Contributes to Swiss–Romanian Research & Innovation Partnership Under the Second Swiss Contribution

Villigen, Switzerland & Bucharest, Romania — The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), through its Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC), is contributing its scientific expertise to the Research & Innovation thematic area of the Swiss–Romanian Cooperation Programme under the Second Swiss Contribution, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

Under the Emissions Research & Monitoring Infrastructure (ERMI) Programme, PSI, in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA), supports Romanian partners in strengthening scientific research infrastructure

The strategic objective is to strengthen the Romanian research capabilities and monitoring infrastructure in-line with the European ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Traces Gases Research Infrastructure) and ICOS (integrated Carbons Observation Systems) activities, enabling improved scientific understanding and enhanced measurement capacity in atmospheric and emissions research.

In specific, the ERMI Programme contributes to evidence-based policymaking and supports local and national authorities by enhancing knowledge on climate change, air quality, and related health impacts via:

  • Advancing the understanding of particulate matter (PM) and methane emissions
  • Improving measurement infrastructure, modelling, simulation, and data interpretation capabilities
  • Strengthening cooperation between leading Romanian and Swiss research institutions

Through its participation, LAC utilizes internationally recognized expertise in atmospheric science and emissions research, supporting infrastructure development and collaborative research activities.

Open positions

In connection with its research activities under these programmes, LAC currently offers two postdoctoral research positions. Further information can be found here.
