Biography
Marie-Christine completed a Bachelor of Physics (2011) and a Master of Physics (2014) at Technical University Munich (Germany), where she first started working on X-ray imaging during her Bachelors project. She has always had great interest in both physics and medicine and hence decided to also complete a Master of Medical Physics (2013) at the University of Sydney (Australia). Following her studies in Germany and Australia, she moved to Diamond Light Source (UK) to pursue a PhD project on “X-ray phase-contrast imaging using near-field speckles”. Marie was awarded her PhD from University College London (UK) in January 2020. Her PhD work has been recognised with several awards including the Springer Thesis Award (2020) and the Werner Meyer-Ilse Memorial Award (2018). She then worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton (UK) to develop her X-ray speckle-based imaging methods further. In 2021, she joined the Paul Scherrer Institut as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Laboratory for Micro- and Nanotechnology (LMN), where she was working on the development of novel X-ray optics and on X-ray wavefront sensing. Since January 2022, Marie is a member of the X-ray Tomography Group of Prof. Marco Stampanoni, where she is able to combine her interests in physics and medicine. In her role as translational X-ray imaging adjunct scientist, she works on X-ray phase-contrast and dark-field imaging with a focus on the further development of these techniques towards their clinical translation.
To date, Marie has authored 38 papers and conference proceedings as well as a book. She has been an invited speaker at 22 international conferences, seminars and meetings in 8 different countries.
