Biography
Andreas Apseros is a postdoctoral researcher in the Structure and Mechanics of Advanced Materials group at PSI. He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in Natural Sciences (Physics) at the University of Cambridge before pursuing his doctorate at ETH Zurich in the Laboratory for Mesoscopic Systems under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Laura Heyderman. During his doctoral research, he developed linear dichroic orientation tomography, a new x-ray imaging technique for the three-dimensional characterisation of materials with anisotropic properties.
Scientific Research
His current research focuses on understanding the organisational nano- and microstructure of mineralised biological tissues using synchrotron x-ray imaging, with particular emphasis on small-angle x-ray scattering tensor tomography (SAXS-TT). His work also includes developing correlative multiscale analysis that combines SAXS-TT with high-resolution x-ray tomography and electron microscopy.
In addition, he contributes to the commissioning and development of SAXS-TT at the cSAXS beamline, supports users during synchrotron experiments and develops analysis tools for extracting quantitative structural information from x-ray imaging and scattering data.
