Yu-Chen Liu is a PhD student in physics at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, under the supervision of Prof. Jan-Chi Yang. He joins materials Science beamline as a visiting student from May 2021. He developed his interest toward emergent phenomena in complex oxide material systems and structural analysis with X-ray diffraction as well as transmission electron microscopy during his Master and early stage of PhD. At Swiss Light Source, he collaborates with Dr. Shih-Wen Huang to do the research, which focuses on electronic orderings.

Yu-Chen Liu’s scientific interest focuses on the emergent phenomena in complex oxide materials, in particular the multiferroic properties. He investigated the dynamics of ferroelectric domains in lead zirconate titanate (PbZrTiO3) and bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) thin films through the manipulation of strain. His specialty is to grow high crystalline thin films and novel heterostructures by using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and freestanding technique. With this freestanding technique, the heterostructures of different combination of complex oxides can be produced. It provides extra degrees of freedom and potential in research of interface properties and thin film engineering. Currently, he focuses on the magnetic ordering in both as-grown and freestanding ferromagnetic thin films.
