The 21st international conference on cyclotrons and their applications 2016

The 2016 edition will be hosted by the Paul Scherrer Institute, PSI, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH.

The program covers

The conference will be held in the historic settings of ETH Zürich. The Paul Scherrer Institute is located about 30km from the venue and participants of the conference will have the opportunity to visit the accelerator facilities at PSI, including a number of cyclotrons. Group photo CYC2016

Workshop on the energy efficiency of proton driver accelerators (p-Driver) 2016

High power proton drivers are needed to generate secondary particles at high intensities, such as neutrons, muons or neutrinos. The applications of these facilities have a broad spectrum in the fields of particle physics and condensed matter physics. On the other hand, the production of megawatt-class proton beams implies the consumption of large amounts of electrical energy. This aspect is seen more and more critical in the public society and in funding agencies. New projects and operating facilities must focus on improving the energy efficiency with a higher priority. With this workshop we are aiming to supporting such developments towards higher efficiency. The anticipated needs of secondary particle flux for experimental applications will be reviewed, as well as intrinsic efficiency aspects of different accelerator concepts, suited for high power beam production.

The main goal of this workshop is to consider the whole power conversion chain from grid to the secondary radiation needed at the experiments. In addition, we will look at important auxiliary systems of proton drivers, such as cryogenic facilities. A short summary report will be prepared with recommendations on efficient technologies and future R&D on this aspect of high intensity proton driver accelerators. The workshop will be supported by the EUCARD-2 program, particularly the work package EnEfficient.

European Cyclotron Progress Meeting (ECPM) 2012

The European Cyclotron Progress Meeting ECPM XXXVIII was held at PSI from 9 until 12 May 2012. These meetings focus on cyclotrons and their applications, cyclotron subsystems and technical advancements. Also new projects and upgrades, medical and industrial applications were presented. Discussions were held about general trends, educational reviews and future developments. Group photo ECPM2012

High Brightness 2010

The 46th ICFA Advanced Beam Dynamics Workshop took place from September 27 to October 1, 2010 in Morschach, Switzerland near Lake of Lucerne. This fifth meeting in a series of workshops focusing on High Brightness, High Intensity Hadron Beams was hosted by the Paul Scherrer Institute, PSI. The scientific program covered recent experimental and theoretical advances. The number of participants, 167, was larger than that of previous workshops and indicating a rising interest in the field of high intensity facilities. Group photo HB2010

Accelerator Radiation Induced Activation

This workshop, the first in the series, was organised by the Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen PSI, in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). It seeks to bring together scientists and engineers interested in problems of radionuclide transmutation in various applications at accelerator faclilities. While the primary focus will be on computational methods to calculate radionuclide buildup and depletion and on experimental benchmarks for comparison, the workshop will also include discussion of transmutation systems, nuclear data and practical applications. The workshop should appeal to those interested in neutron- and accelerator-induced activation; radioactive waste generation, transmutation and burnup; medical isotope production; and radionuclide production in accelerator-driven physics facilities.
