Provisions of the immigration authorities for entry into Switzerland

For all nationalities

Duration of accumulated stays of institute members at PSI (only for beamline access) does NOT exceed 8 days per calendar year

No special permit necessary! Please take care of your visa if required.

Please note that in all cases the arrival and the departure date do count, not only the time of the experiment !!

EU/EFTA citizens

Duration of accumulated stays of institute members is exceeding 8 days but is NOT exceeding 90 days per calendar year.

Users sent to PSI by a foreign employer are allowed to work in Switzerland only with the consent by the immigration authorities. For nationals of the countries listed below an online report to the immigration authorities is sufficient. That online report is provided by PSI. Please apply early enough (at least 10 days in advance of your stay) for your badge and dosimeter through 'DUO'. The User Office will then take care of your online report and return the electronic permission to you per email.



Countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden Duration of accumulated stays of institute members exceeds 90 days per calendar year

If your stay is exceeding 90 days we will have to obtain the required permit for you. If you require a visa for entry into Switzerland we will take care of the visa application. Both procedures take about 4-6 weeks. Please register at least 6-8 weeks before your stay at PSI for badge and dosimeter through DUO. We will then attend to the necessary formalities.

Non-EU/EFTA citizens

For any duration of stays that exceeds 8 days per calendar year

For nationals others than listed above the online registration is not applicable and several documents have to be provided. In that case the users are asked to apply at least 6-8 weeks in advance of their stay for badge/dosimeter through DUO, such that PSI is aware of your arrival well in advance. We will then contact you to ask for the necessary documents, more information.
