SLS EU access programs: BioStruct-X, ESMI and CALIPSO (former ELISA)
Similar to the NMI3 project the European LIght Sources Activities program CALIPSO (former ELISA Access Program) and also the BioStruct-X and ESMI programme has two strategic objectives: (i) to support transnational users of national facilities in the domain of synchrotron and FEL science and (ii) to support joint research activities (JRAs) of the participating partner institutions. The access and research initiatives are complemented and enhanced by targeted networking activities. With the bilateral agreement between the EU and Switzerland in action, SLS is part of this Integrated Infrastructure Initiative (I3) on Synchrotrons and FELs within the 7th Framework Programme.SLS-Non-PX Users - Please note the following important information
EU funding for travel reimbursement available through CALIPSO, the new European Access ProgrammeEuropean users will have access to Swiss Light Source through the EU Transnational Access (CALIPSO) arrangements. The level of access will be in accordance with agreed level of EU funding. Thus, users who would be eligible for travel & subsistence support through CALIPSO will be informed after the evaluation of the proposals. Approximately 10% of the highest ranked EU proposals will be eligible for travel & subsistence support. Per group one scientist will receive this financial support.
SLS-PX Users - Please note the following important information
The intermediate funding for PX-users at the Swiss Light Source will be stopped by the end of February 2012EU funding for travel reimbursement only available through BioStruct-X project
A new project funded by the European Commission and dedicated to Biological Structure determination at Synchrotron facilities started in September 1st, 2011 is now ready for receiving requests for transnational user support (travel reimbursement). One of the activities of the BioStruct-X project is the financial support to Transnational Users of synchrotron radiation techniques as Macromolecular Crystallography, Small Angle X-ray Scattering and X-ray Imaging, with research projects regarding the determination of structures of biological macromolecules and cellular and subcellular ultra structures. At the Swiss Light Source, the beamlines involved in this programme are PX-I (X06SA), PX-II (X10SA) and PX-III (X06DA).The official web-site for this program is: http://www.biostruct-x.eu
The project operates a central Block Allocation Group (BAG) proposal mechanism, which will promote project excellence, multi-site applications and the combination of different methods and hybrid approaches. Applications for Trans National Access (TNA) support need to have been made prior to requests for facility access. The lifetime for BioStruct-X support of the BAG starts at the date when the evaluation result is passed to the proposers and is valid for one year.
During the lifetime of the BAG, BioStruct-X partner facilities for infrastructure (such as the Swiss Light Source) can be approached for access with BioStruct-X support. When applying via the facilities’ local application procedure, they must clearly identify themselves as applying as part of the BioStruct-X supported BAG. The facilities retain a right to decide on project access and additional project assessment procedures that may be required by their governance structures. Possible BioStruct-X support is limited to their offer within the BioStruct-X grant, not exceeding 20% of their facility user community, and therefore is not guaranteed by a successful BAG application.
Proposal submission can be done at the BioStruct-X webpage. The evaluation of the proposals will be carried out electronically and is expected to take less than one month (30 days) following each application deadline - please read: http://www.biostruct-x.eu/content/apply-funding.
Guidelines for the application procedure to receive BioStruct-X funding can be found here: http://www.biostruct-x.eu/content/application-guidelines-0 . For help with questions please contact the BioStruct-X project manager (http://www.biostructx.org/content/contact).
Acknowledgement Statement
All publications resulting from SLS experiments, which were funded within one of the Access programs should contain the following acknowledgement statement:
"The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n.°312284 (for CALIPSO), n.°283570 (for BioStruct-X) or n.°262348 (for ESMI)."
Report Duties for Funded Projects
Users whose experiments have been supported within one of the access programs have to provide some information after performing the experiment. This is necessary for us to fulfill our reporting duties against the funding agency.- Please submit an experimental report as pdf file via the Digital User Office DUO as soon as possible after the end of the experiment.
- Please take a few minutes to fill in the EC online questionnaire. Please select the respective program (e.g. CALIPSO (312284), Biostruct-X (283570) or ESMI (262348)) as EC contract number.
