The Paul Scherrer Institute is with 1400 employees the largest research centre for the natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland and a worldwide leading user laboratory. At PSI, we have developed a novel proton therapy facility for the treatment of deep-seated tumours using a gantry mounted, dynamic beam delivery technique. This facility has been clinically operational since 1996, and more than 500 patients have been treated using this novel technique. We have just started treatment with a new state-of-the-art eye irradiation facility and are currently further expanding our operation with the development and commissioning of a second generation proton gantry together with cutting edge image guidance technology. In addition, we are currently in the process of acquiring and implementing a commercial treatment planning and information system as part of a collaborative arrangement with an industrial partner. Medical Physicist

in proton therapy

Your tasks

You would be primarily involved in the medical physics aspects of the exisitng gantry and with the development and commissioning of our second gantry (e.g. definition of specifications, commissioning and acceptance, treatment planning, etc). As such, you would be expected to share the responsibilities of these duties with the other medical physicists in the group. In addition, you would also be expected to contribute significantly to the research interests of the group, in particular in the areas of image guidance and treatment planning.

Your profile

You should ideally be a qualified and board certified (or equivalent) Medical Physicist, with experience in radiotherapy and/or imaging. However, exceptional candidates without such qualifications would also be considered. Good and demonstrable software and IT skills would be advantageous. Furthermore, you should be prepared to work in a team and have a good knowledge of German and English.
