The neutrons produced at PSI's spallation neutron source are being applied as a means for non-destructive material and component testing for use in industry and research. One advantage of this methodology lies in providing high contrastability for low-density materials (materials with hydrogen content such as water, oil, plastics, or adhesives). At a fraction of a millimetre, even very small particles can be made visible in a non-destructive manner with the so-called neutron-micro-tomography.
