CATCOS Aerosol Measurements
CATCOS (Capacity Building and Twinning for Climate Observing Systems) is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) with MeteoSwiss (project page) as the coordinating partner.
In the context of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) and WMO Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW), the project addresses the need to improve climate observations world-wide, but particularly in developing countries and countries in transition.
The role of our laboratory is to implement aerosol measurements (aerosol light scattering and absorption at various wavelengths) at the different sites while Empa is responsible for measurement of greenhouse gases. The University of Zürich and the University of Fribourg focus on glacier monitoring.
Why aerosol light scattering and absorption measurements?
